REFRIGERANTS
Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerant gases were introduced in the early 1930’s by engineers seeking a replacement for hazardous materials used in refrigeration such as sulphur dioxide and ammonia. Since their introduction, the use of CFCs has experienced dramatic growth, not only for use in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, but also in industrial applications.

The Earth’s stratosphere contains a layer of ozone which provides a protective barrier for the Earth’s plants and animals against ultraviolet (UV) rays emitted from the sun. In 1974 a theory was proposed that CFC gases may be an ozone depleting agent, causing the ozone hole.

In response to these threats, sixty eight nations met and signed the Montreal Protocol in 1987. This protocol called for an immediate reduction in non-essential uses of CFCs, with a combined reduction in production and usages of other CFCs, such as those used in refrigeration applications.

Based on these guidelines Cooltime work only with non-ozone depletive substances for use in our proprietary air conditioning units. We also provide the service to help with the recovery and retrofitting of existing equipment to the new ozone friendly alternative gasses.
