CE Marking has been introduced as part of the European Union's new
approach to technical harmonisation as a means of identifying products
that comply with all EC directives.
The Explosive Atmospheres
94/9/EC ATEX (Equipment) Directive became mandatory on July 1st
2003. (It is named after the French "ATmosphere EXplosible").
The directive applies to all equipment
and systems for use in potentially explosive atmospheres within
the EU.
Manufacturers who apply
its provisions and affix the CE marking are able to sell their equipment
anywhere in Europe without any further requirements being applied
with respect to the risks covered being applied.
The directive covers a surprisingly
large range of equipment, potentially including equipment used on
fixed offshore platforms, in petro-chemical plants, mines, flourmills
and other areas where a potentially explosive atmosphere may be
present.
Cooltime manufacture, supply
and service a large range of ATEX certified equipment that are CE
marked in accordance with the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC and the latest
CENELEC standards, certified for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous
areas.
